Logic Pro 11.0.1 For Mac Released

Yesterday Logic 11.0.1 for Mac was released via the Mac App Store.

First Impressions

The Logic 11.0.1 for Mac install ran smoothly via the Mac App Store and appeared to scan my plugin folder a bit faster compared to previous versions. An improvement, but still takes too long in my opinion. My plugin folder is quite tame compared to many artists so I imagine this process taking double or even triple the amount of time on larger more complex systems. My plugin scanning with 11.0.1 probably took about three-ish minutes upon launching the app after install.

I started checking out the update by testing some recently completed project files.

Only a fractional amount of my fix note requests appear to have been addressed such as:

I will continue to test and take notes over the next couple of weeks and post updates of my findings.

In the meantime see Logic Pro for Mac release notes.

See Reddit Thread Logic 11.0.1 Release Note for more first hand user experiences.

If you’re interested in running Logic 11.0.1 be sure to back up your current logic install prior to updating. If you already have updated without backing up your Logic 11.0.0, 10.8.1 or earlier version of Logic. Feel free to reach out via my contact page. I might be able to help you out.

Quick Takes On Logic 11.0.1

The Good

  1. It is great that Apple is still actively developing Logic Pro for Mac.
  2. Logic continues to receive fixes and new feature additions with every update.
  3. Logic Pro on Mac counties to be very popular among artists across many different genres of music. See Reddit.
  4. Logic Pro for Mac is still a one time purchase. I purchased Logic Pro in 2019 and have not paid for an update on the Mac version since. (However, I’m fully in support of subscription tier for power users to receive more frequent updates and user feature request implementation.)

The Bad

  1. Still waiting for fixes to my list of items published when Logic 11 was announced a month ago. See Logic Pro 11 For Mac Announced.
  2. When will we finally get native features like:

3. Logic Pro for Mac has exclusive features only available to users of M-Series Chips (Currently M1 or higher). I expect this list to get bigger and bigger over time. Intel MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Pro and iMac Pro users, your upgrade cycle is nearing if you wish to remain current. If you’re currently in the market for a new MacBook Pro check out my post, Certified Refurbished M3 Pro and Max MacBooks Available.

Currently exclusive M-Series Chip Features via Apple Newsroom:
– M-series Apple silicon is recommended when using Session Players on iPad.
– M-series Apple silicon is required when using Stem Splitter on iPad and Mac.
– M-series Apple silicon is recommended when using ChromaGlow on iPad. M-series Apple silicon is required when using ChromaGlow on Mac.

This list of M-Series exclusive features is small for now. However, don’t be surprised if some of the features requested I’ve outlined above are implemented as M-Series only features over the next few years.

In the same way that Apple releases exclusive software features for newer iPhone and iPad hardware:

Additional Notes

All of my plugins appear to be working with out any further updates on the Third Party plugin side. I do run all of my software on the latest non beta release available. So my upgrade path to Logic 11 on Mac may be smoother than others.

The only exception being Best Services ENGINE. I did have to run the latest available installer and afterwards Logic 11.0.1 was able to properly validate the plugin.

For more information see Best Service Downloads. Updated ENGINE to Installer Mac OS 2.8.1.60

Fortunately, I rarely use ENGINE and its outdated interface. So this note is a non issue for my day to day use of Logic Pro on Mac.
